Description
Breast Badge, 32 mm, Copper, Model for Soldiers, French hallmarked “cuivreâ€, original suspension ring and ribbon. Instituted by Prince Alexander Ioan Cuza in 1860 to reward those who took part at the battles of “Dealu Spiriiâ€, the 13th of September 1848 against the Turks. On the obverse the Walachian crowned crucigerous eagle, holding the sword in the right claw and the scepter in the left one and wearing on his chest the Modavian emblem. Above the inscription “PRO VIRTUTE MILITARI†and underneath maker’s mark “Caque.F.Graveur de l’Empereur a Parisâ€. On the reverse a wreath of laurel leaves surrounding the inscription “13 SEPTEMBRIE 1848 DEALUL SPIREIâ€. This is the first Romanian military medal awarded the first time on the 9th of April 1866. Of the highest importance and rarity, very few pieces known, in extremely fine condition! I RR!Â
