Description
Rare Full J. Penn Declaration Signer
A paper slip entirely engrossed by John Penn (1741-1788), a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation, and signed by him as "J. Penn" at lower right. Also inscribed with eight additional words in his hand as "Benjamin Egerton ag. John Washington Carr / Damage £40.0.0." Unevenly trimmed/torn along the edges nowhere near the text, and with isolated ink stains near the center. Else near fine. From the Collection of Dr. Lawrence E. Miller (1931-2014), orthopedic surgeon, psychiatrist, and autograph collector.
Penn practiced law in Virginia and North Carolina between 1762 and his death in 1788, and this paper slip corresponds to the details of a lawsuit. Penn was one of three delegates from North Carolina to sign the Declaration of Independence, and the only North Carolina delegate to also sign the Articles of Confederation.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
