Description
A very rare and fascinating Egyptian bronze figurine of the god Montu, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, the falcon-headed god of war, depicted with the horns of a bull, wearing a short striated kilt and a headdress consisting of two plumes. Montu was not always depicted with the head of a falcon, but was also closely linked to bull cults where he was depicted with the head of a bull rather than that of a falcon. This fantastic and exciting piece appears to be a hybrid of these two depictions, as well as his close association with the Buchis bull. ! H: 4 in (10.3cm). Ex Florida private estate.
