Description
A tall slender female sculpture called a deble, which traditionally were used at Poro festivities, such as initiations and funerals. Deble are held by their upper arms and pounded on the ground to mark a rhythm for dancers. The sculpture has a wonderfully stylized face and form, and measures 39.5 inches. Senufo peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. provenance: A private Houston Texas Collection.
