Description
A very finely carved wooden mask with attached headdress and wonderfully painted geometric designs throughout. This mask represented a wise older man at boys’ initiations. One of the principal Kuba dance masks is called pwoom itok. The most notable identifying characteristic is the shape of the eyes, whose centers are cones surrounded by holes through which the wearer sees. Kuba peoples, DRC/Congo, central Africa. The mask will include a professional display stand. The mask measures 12 x 12 inches ( 18 inches tall on the stand) Provenance: Ex Edward Robertson, Washington DC.
