Description
A very fine Old initiation mask from the Southern Bushoong/Kete peoples of the DRC/ Congo, central Africa. A very interesting example that still retains its original painted designs, often these masks are repainted over years, however this one was spared. The mask has a well handled and worn surface and an old shoowa velvet headdress attached with raffia grass beard. The mask measures 14 inches tall x 9.5 inches wide. A metal display stand can be included for an additional $40.00. Provenance: This mask was previously in the collection of Dr. Ken Rosenbaum and was donated to the SMA Fathers Museum of African Art in 1985. In 2000 it was deassesioned to the Hesse galleries auction in New York, and purchased by Dr Brian Healy of New York.
