Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. early 20th century CE. A cast-brass crucifix depicting Jesus Christ during the crucifixion. Above his head are five scenes depicting events in his life, four floating seraphim heads, two downward-facing cherubs, and an image of God the Father above a cloudy border. The monogram "IC XC" is shown next to both of Christ's outstretched arms, and four figures stand near his legs. The monogram "MAPE" (the place of the cross has become Paradise) is shown beneath Christ's feet, and an image of Adam's skull in the cave rests beneath. The verso displays a common prayer reading, "As You were voluntarily raised upon the cross for our sake, Grant mercy to those who are called by Your Name, O Christ God; Gladden all Orthodox Christians by Your power, Granting them victories over their adversaries, By bestowing on them the Invincible trophy, Your weapon of Peace." Size: 4.3" W x 8.75" H (10.9 cm x 22.2 cm).

Slight bending to overall form, with softening to many finer details, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits within some recessed areas, and great patina throughout.
