Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. late 19th century CE. Brass crucifix depicting Christ on a Russian Orthodox cross supported by a square base. The emaciated deity is shown wearing a loin cloth with 2 trumpeting angels above him and floral motifs next to each spread arm. The underside of the base is incised with a Greek cross and the acronym "IC XC NIKA," which means "Jesus Christ Conquers." A Chi Rho is inscribed on the lower verso of the crucifix, while liberal remains of Greek or Cyrillic writing adorn the remainder of the verso and the upper side of the base.
