Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 1000 CE. A stylish necklace of a wearable form composed of eighteen pottery spindle whorl beads with spherical bodies, a carination on the midsection or lower body, and a pierced suspension hole. Each bead features abstract avian motifs incised onto their surfaces, and the fine detailing is brought forth with applied white pigment. The beads are strung from three interior strands that coalesce on the outer strands, and the terminals are capped with an integral loop and an additional pottery spindle whorl fastener. Strung in modern times, this is a fabulous necklace that is sure to complement any outfit! Size (necklace): 21.125" L (53.7 cm); (largest bead): 0.7" W x 0.6" H (1.8 cm x 1.5 cm)

Condition
Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Pottery spindle whorl beads are ancient, and red thread is modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to pottery beads, with fading and losses to white pigment on some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Nice avian iconography remaining.
