Description
Pre-Colombian Mayan Jade Monkey Pendent (550-950 AD)
The Monkey plays an important role in the Mayan Culture as an ancestor of modern humans. The first men were created by the Gods from trees. They were sinners, so the Gods came to eradicate them. Only a few of them survived, they did this by hiding in the trees, where they stayed, becoming monkeys. The Gods next created man from corn. We are the descendants of these corn men, and because the corn stalks are low, there is no place for us to hide our sins from the Gods.
