Description
A rare Egyptian green-glazed faience hybrid amulet, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, in the form of a baboon with a bird's tail and wings wearing an Atef crown. The figure stands on a rectangular integral base and with suspension loop at back. Amulets such as these were made to incorporate the power of multiple deities to serve as an amulet of protection or aversion. H: 2.5 cm. Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation, and acquired his collection throughout decades of travel beginning in the 1950's.
