Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Period, Dynasty 26 to 29, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A small faience amulet with a deep turquoise color in the form of the head of Hathor, a goddess associated with joy, the feminine, and motherhood. She has an angular face, with large eyes, a wonderful wig, and a narrow headband - an image that is seen at her temples. Above her head is a narrow loop for suspension. See a very similar representation of Hathor on an amulet held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 26.7.1041. Size: 0.75" W x 1.2" H (1.9 cm x 3 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Private Orange, County CA collection acquired between 1990 and 1995
