A NARRATIVE OF A JOURNEY OF FIVE THOUSAND MILES THROUGH THE EASTERN AND WESTERN STATES

OF AMERICA CONTAINED IN EIGHT REPORTS ADDRESSED TO THE THIRTY-NINE ENGLISH FAMILIES

By whom the author was deputed, in June 1817, to ascertain whether any, and what part of the United States would be suitable for their residence.

Henry Bradshaw Fearon, English traveler, He was a London surgeon, and was sent by thirty-nine English families to the United States in 1817 to ascertain what part of this country, if any, would be suitable for their residence.

Packed full of fascinating observations on the different states, and their people, their trade customs, agriculture, with much detail and opinion on slavery.

With Remarks on Mr. Birkbecks Notes and Letters.

London : Printed by Strathan and Spottiswoode, Printers-Street for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, Paternoster-Row. Bound in original leather backed, marbled paper covered boards. 22.2cm x 14cm x 2.7cm. xv, 454 pages Internally, the front endpapers are a bit foxed and browned (as are the rear endpapers), with some slight wear and pale staining. There is a little dustiness and the front free endpaper is creased/wrinkled. A little toning to a couple of leaves. Else mostly clean and bright throughout.
