Description
1869 American Emigrants Immigration Illustrated US State MAPS Railroad Alaska
Frederick Goddards “Where to Emigrate and Why” is a rare, 19th-century informational treatise designed to give hints to emigrants on where to live. It serves as a basic travel guide as well, giving information on climate, landscapes, transportation, available goods and trade, farming, and even railroad accessibility in each state. Goddard even notes what emigrants should expect when arriving in the United States, specifically those who land in New York City, and how they can effectively get to the locations they desire.
This particular salesmans dummy (very rare!) includes descriptions of Alaska, Utah, the Dakotas, Missouri, Kansas, the Virginias and Carolinas, the American South, Minnesota, Wyoming, Oregon, and still others. While it is an excerpt of the whole, it still features many of the highly desired maps!
