Description
Georg Kolbe 1877 Waldheim/Sa. - 1947 Berlin Head of the dancer 1911/1912 Bronze, H 28 cm (without base); inscribed ''GK''; Foundry mark ''H.NOACK BERLIN''; expertise of Dr. Julia Wallner / Georg Kolbe Museum available The almost life-size ''Dancer'' from 1911/12 is Georg Kolbe's best-known work. After the exhibition in the Berlin Secession in 1912, the Berlin National Gallery only bought the bronze on condition that it had to remain unique. Due to the great response from ''Dancer'', Kolbe saw himself induced to repeat the head. The first casting took place in 1929. It went into the Cohn Collection and was shown in the German Art Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1932. Kolbe donated the second bronze his former school in Waldheim. Six castings were made in the 1970s. Like all of Kolbe's castings, our cast was cast by the Noack picture foundry. It is one of a maximum of twelve castings. (J. Wallner)
