1895 Edward Everett Hale ALS Author Wrote "The Man Without a Country" Written on His Personal Letterhead
EDWARD EVERETT HALE (1822-1909). American author, historian, and Unitarian Minister active during the Civil War, best known for his writings such as "The Man Without a Country," published in Atlantic Monthly.
June 24, 1895-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "Ed. E. Hale" written on his red printed personal letterhead, 2 pages (single sheet front and back), Roxbury, MA, Extremely Fine. Imprinted with Hale's name and address in red ink, this letter measures 8" x 5." Here, Hale transmits "a mass of papers" concerning Elisha Parmelee to a Dr. Howe, noting the "He [Parmelee] is not buried at Goshen but is buried somewhere in Pennsylvania." We could not find such a person in a quick search of the Internet, but, apparently, he was someone of interest to Hale and Dr. Howe.
Edward Everett Hale (April 3, 1822 " June 10, 1909) was an American author, historian, and Unitarian minister, best known for his writings such as "The Man Without a Country," published in Atlantic Monthly, in support of the Union during the Civil War. He was the grand-nephew of Nathan Hale, the American spy during the Revolutionary War.
