This lot consists of a charcoal pencil illustration on paper, done in the Expressionist style of Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945). A small handwritten inscription at lower right corner reads, "Kollwitz". Image depicts a line of common people who hands are all interlaced with steadfast grips. They appear to be forming a line, faces somber and unique. A striking addition to any collection. This unframed piece measures approximately 7" x 10.25".

Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945) was a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. Kollwitz was the first woman to be elected to and receive honorary professor status from the Prussian Academy of the Arts. Kollwitz' career spanned the breadth of Modernism, Expressionism, and everything in between. Her truest talent lied in draughtsmanship, and her portrayal of everyday people (mostly pained laborers) was an amazing gift to art lovers worldwide.
