Description
This lot consists of an oil painting on board, done in the expressive landscape style of Franz Xaver von Pausinger (Austrian, 1839-1915). A hand-painted inscription at lower left corner reads, "F.v.Pausinger". This unframed piece measures approximately 12" x 7.75".
In this stunning work, rugged mountains converge on a grassy and wild scene. Two deer with majestic antlers have stopped by a clear stream. An enveloping landscape replete with careful brush strokes and gestural color.
Franz Xaver von Pausinger (Austrian, 1839-1915) was a painter who specialized in animals and landscape scenes. Pausinger was trained as an academic painter and rose to fame as an illustrator, even accompanying Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria on a trip to the East. Substantial collections of Pausinger's work are now housed in the Austrian National Library and the Salzburg Museum.
