Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kusu peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A forged-iron currency piece known as a boloko that has a high-arching, rod-form body that rests upon a pair of discoid feet. Boloko currency pieces like this example were used for only the most important of transactions within the Kusu culture, such as purchasing parcels of land, acquiring a house, or giving as part of a marriage dowry. Size: 9.75" W x 14.625" H (24.8 cm x 37.1 cm)
