Description
**Originally Listed At $550**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built blackware pottery vessel in the form of a seated feline, perhaps representative of a fierce jaguar. The feline-form vessel has a slightly rounded but stable base, a bulbous body with modeled legs and a curled tail in relief, a raised head with puffy jowls and perky ears, an arching handle with a central bifurcation groove, and a conical spout projecting up from the posterior. A petite perforation in the cat's forehead suggests this vessel was perhaps a canteen or a whistling jar. Size: 7.7" L x 3.4" W x 5.9" H (19.6 cm x 8.6 cm x 15 cm)
Provenance: private Chicago, Illinois, USA collection, acquired in 1988
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
