Description
This lot includes personal correspondence of Clarence Ferguson and includes a letter from Thomas A Edison Inc dated Feb 12, 1942 telling Mr Ferguson that they no longer carry the parts that he needs and reporting on the heath of an Edison employee that Mr. Ferguson had inquired about, and closing that they hoped to see Mr Ferguson again some time in Orange, including original envelope. A typed letter from Ethel M. Harlan, in Orange, NJ, from 1938. Mrs Harlan was the widow of cylinder recording artist. Byron Harlan. In the letter, Ms Harlan thanks Mr. Ferguson for the offer to send cylinder records of her husband saying that she has none and that she would be able to play them on the phonograph that Mr. Edison gave them as a wedding gift in 1904, in original envelope. A hand written letter dated April 9, 1946, from Harry Hunting in Yonkers, NY, stating that he is the son of Russell Hunting and that his father was the original (Michael Casey) and would be willing to purchase any records that he had, in original envelope. A typed letter from the Bishop And Babcock Company, Cleveland, OH from 1928 to Mr Ferguson stating that they no longer manufactured records, in original envelope. A hand written note stamped April 24, 1929, showing that Clarence Ferguson purchased a second hand Gem phonograph for $1, from Babson Brothers. Also includes an Edison Industries property pass from a visit Mr. Ferguson made in 1959. A color postcard of the Edison Laboratory in Orange. Clarence Ferguson was the last authorized Edison dealer in the US. He started his career working in the Edison factory in New Jersey. Opened his store in Chicago sometime in the teens. Retired to the family farm in Merrill, WI, and continued selling and repairing phonographs, parts, and records until his death in 1971.
