c. 1865 Abraham Lincoln Mourning Color Portrait Print
1865-Dated Abraham Lincoln Assassination Mourning Period, Colored Portrait Print, Choice Extremely Fine.
Handsome President "Abraham Lincoln" Mourning Illustration Print, published by "Chr. Kimmel & Forster," New York. To millions of Americans, Abraham Lincoln's death was a personal loss. They had come to think of him as more than just the President of the United States, but as a trusted and loyal friend. Caroline Richards, the wife of a Civil War veteran wrote, "The news came this morning that our dear president, Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated yesterday, on the day appointed for thanksgiving for Union victories. I have felt sick over it all day and so has every one that I have seen. All seem to feel as though they had lost a personal friend, and tears flow plenteously." This print measures about 9.5" x 11.75". It shows a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln with hand-tinted plush rosy checks and lips surrounded by a black oval design. His date of birth and death are displayed at the bottom of the page.
