Description
Type 2 Flag pole topperAn original NSDAP second pattern flag pole top with pole. It measures 8 3/4” from wingtip to wingtip and 6 1/2” from the top of the head to base of the wreath. The total height of the flag pole and topper is 67 3/4”. The finial is made of solid metal with the obverse portraying the national eagle, right facing with wings spread and talons wrapping around a wreath of oak leaves encircling a black enameled swastika. It is supported on a tubular socket base and mounted to its original pole.History: the Nazi Party was originally founded in 1918 as the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei and renamed in 1920 to the commonly known Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (or NSDAP Party), taming power in Germany in 1933. During its rise to power and the subsequent years controlling Germany, the Nazi party held countless rallies and political ceremonies where flags were mounted to poles identical to the subject item. Upon the conclusion of WWII, these were also destroyed by the thousands as allied troops trekked across conquered Germany, destroying any symbols of terror that could be found. Few poles were taken as war trophies due to their inconvenient size and relative insignificance, making this a somewhat rare piece for any collection.
