Description
Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Six Figure Studies of French Villagers, c.1875, watercolor on paper, unsigned, six sheets each measuring 10 x 7 inches mounted to larger sheet, unframed. Title taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 64 on the reverse. The people and landscapes of France were a popular subject for Gignoux following his return to his native country in 1870. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
Condition
