Description
Taino (c. 1000-1500 CE) Framed necklace. Found in Haiti. Containers 5 andesite pendants. The Haitian Taino typically used this type of stone or shell for their pendants. Either limited by available stone or ability, the indigenous art from this end of Hispaniola was crude compared to the Northern side of the island. Still this necklace represents some of their better efforts. Provenance: Larry Roberts, author of Taino Sculpture: Art of the Gods. Size: 7"L (sight); 13'' x 11'', 33 x 28 cm (frame).
