This lot consists of a framed pastel illustration on paper, rendered in the style of Polish artist Stanislas Wyspianski (Polish, 1869-1907). A hand-drawn inscription at top right reads, "SW 1904". The image depicts the portrait of a young woman and her young child. The mother smiles peacefully, eyes downturned, as her child looks out peacefully from the comfort of her embrace. This piece is an example of the portrait style for which Wyspianski is known. A beautiful illustration that would be a great addition to any art collection. Framed piece measures approximately 14.5" x 11.75", with an approximate image sight of 9.25" x 6.5".

Affixed paper label en verso gives the name of a Polish art gallery, with the artist listed as "Stanislaw Wyspianski".

Stanislaw Mateusz Ignacy Wyspianski (Polish, 1869 - 1907) was a Polish playwright, painter and poet, as well as interior and furniture designer. A patriotic writer, he created a series of symbolic, national dramas within the artistic philosophy of the Young Poland Movement. Wyspianski was one of the most outstanding and multifaceted artists of his time in Poland under the foreign partitions.He successfully joined the trends of modernism with themes of the Polish folk tradition and Romantic history. Unofficially, he came to be known as the Fourth Polish Bard (in addition to the earlier Three Bards: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slowacki, and Zygmunt Krasinski).
