This lot consists of an unframed oil painting on stretched canvas, done in the distinctive style of Yoshitomo Nara (Japanese, 1959 - ). Reverse side of piece features an illegible handwritten inscription and an accompanying date, "2001". The smoothly painted image depicts a child with sleepy eyes extending one hand, which is nothing but a ball of flame. Appears to be a study for Nara's iconic sculpture, "Light My Fire" [2001]. This unique painting would be a fine addition to any collection. Unframed piece measures approximately 18.5" x 13.5".

Yoshitomo Nara (Japanese, 1959 - ) rose to the foreground of the Japanese Pop Art movement in the 1990s. He specializes in children and animals drawn with confident, cartoonish shape, pastel hues, and little to no background. Drawing inspiration from everything from manga to punk rock, Nara is an internationally recognized artist and a defining member of Japanese culture.
