This lot consists of a framed pastel painting on paper, rendered in the style of Polish artist Stanislas Wyspianski (Polish, 1869-1907). A hand-drawn inscription at top left with the initials "SW" along with the date of "1904". The image depicts the portrait of a young woman. Highlights of white accentuate her hair as she stares stoically into the viewers eyes. Piece is an example of the portrait style for which Wyspianski is known.This beautiful painting would be a great addition to any art collector's gallery. Framed piece measures approximately 17.5" x 13.5", image sight measures approximately 15.5" x 11.5".

Paper label affixed en verso list the artist as "St. Wyspianski", the title as "Oleriko"(sp) and the medium as "pastel".


Stanislaw Mateusz Ignacy Wyspianski (Polish, 1869 – 1907) was a Polish playwright, painter and poet, as well as interior and furniture designer. A patriotic writer, he created a series of symbolic, national dramas within the artistic philosophy of the Young Poland Movement. Wyspianski was one of the most outstanding and multifaceted artists of his time in Poland under the foreign partitions.He successfully joined the trends of modernism with themes of the Polish folk tradition and Romantic history. Unofficially, he came to be known as the Fourth Polish Bard (in addition to the earlier Three Bards: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slowacki, and Zygmunt Krasinski).
