Description
A handwritten purchase agreement in the amount of $7,041 dated September 15, 1836 between John B. Richardville (Jean Baptiste de Richardville) and Samuel Hanna of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Allen Hamilton certified the document and the witness was William Rockhill. John B. Richardville, a Chief of the Miami people, was considered the richest man in Indiana at the time of his death in 1841. His home, The Richardville House, is still standing in Fort Wayne, Indiana and is the only treaty house still in existence today. The letter is presented beneath glass, marbled matting, and encompassed by a composite frame with hanging wire affixed to the verso. Creases; minor holes at some creases; toning & foxing; scratches and nicks to frame. Frame measures approx. 17.25" W x 21" H.
