Five Neolithic Polished Stone Axes from Ancient Anatolia. Provenance: From the Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Leicester B. Holland (1882-1952). Accompanied by a calling card inscribed:" Given to Mrs. Holland with compliments of Mr. Francis H. Bacon. Nov. 1926." A trained architect, Francis H. Bacon (1856-1940) was co-director of the American excavations at the ancient city of Assos, Turkey - the first classical excavation sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America. Range in Size from: to 2'' x 1.5''(5 x 4 cm) to 3'' x 2'' (8 x 5 cm).
