Description
Document from Szczebrzeszyn, a very small village near Zamosc. It deals with the approval of gifts in the form of drugs from the Jewish Social Self Commitee. About this ghetto: An Aid Committee operated in Szczebrzeszyn throughout the period of occupation. In May 1940, 43 Jewish people received two free dinners a month thanks to an initiative most probably organised by this Aid Committee. In July 1940, Jews from Szczebrzeszyn received donations from the USA, mostly food and clothes. The local Judenrat confirmed the receipt of the parcels and picked them up on 6 July. In September and October 1942, Germans organised two subsequent deportation campaigns, which resulted in 2,000 zlotys being sent to the death camp in Bełżec. Another 2,000 local Jews were murdered in the Jewish cemetery. The graveyard was a frequent scene of executions carried out by Germans.
