Two black and white photographs of famous American actresses of the early 20th century - Tallulah Bankhead and Joan Bennett (photo by George Hurrell - American, 1904-1992), ca. 1932. Tallulah Bankhead (American, 1902-1968) performed primarily on stage; however, she also starred in Alfred Hitchcock's "Lifeboat"(1944), and made a few appearances on television. Joan Bennett (American, 1910-1990) was also an actress who commanded stage, film, and television. Bridging the silent movie and the sound eras, she made her name in film noir usually playing the femme fatale for director Fritz Lang in the 1940's. The Bennett photograph was taken by George Hurrell - a master of Hollywood glamour shots. Size: Joan Bennett photo measures 11.125" W x 13.825" H (28.3 cm x 35.1 cm); Tallulah Bankhead photo measures 7.75" W x 9.875" H (19.7 cm x 25.1 cm)

Tallulah Bankhead photo is mounted on a fine linen backing and has "Tallulah Bankhead 1932" handwritten in pencil on the verso. Joan Bennett photo has stamp on verso that reads "JOAN BENNETT FOX FILMS EXCLUSIVE PORTRAIT FOR FOX FILM CORPORATION PLEASE CREDIT GEORGE HURRELL" and "Ca. 1932" is handwritten in pencil.
