Title: Letter on Mexican political chaos after Iturbide's abdication
Place Published: Mexico City
Publisher:
Date Published: Aug. 26, 1823
Description:

Autograph Letter Signed. 2pp.+stampless address leaf. To Colonel Pedro Acevedo (y Calderon), Queretaro, Mexico,

Written at a time of political chaos, months after the abdication and exile of the "Emperor" Iturbide, whose brief royal reign followed Mexican independence from Spain.

Not fully translated but notes "a lot of talk about the progression of the Holy League" (later called the Congress of Panama) proposed by Simon Bolivar; and a last-ditch attempt to avoid all-out civil war after Iturbide's downfall by the Villa de Lagos agreement between dissident generals and Nicolas Bravo, one of the reigning triumvirate, commanding the Government's military forces.

The recipient, Colonel Acevedo, had remained in uncontested control of Queretaro since Spanish colonial days.
