Description
1891 1ed Indian Horrors Native American Massacres Sitting Bull Illustrated WARS
“The history of Indian tribes of our country is intensely interesting and is eagerly read by all classes of people. This work embraces a full account of all the memorable Indian wars in the United States, together with a record of terrible personal encounters with the Red Men, hairbreadth escapes, thrilling captures, and bloody massacres.” – Northrop, Preface to Indian Horrors
A supremely biased account of warfare and relationships between Native American Indian tribes and the ‘White’ settlers from the early 17th-century through the end of the 19th-century. The book appears to have been published shortly after the Battle (or massacre) of Wounded Knee. There is commentary and details on torture, murders, scalping, rape, battles, massacres, and more. Northrop also includes ideas on how to “civilize the savages” and change them of their customs, culture, and military issues. Curiously not in Sabin or Howes.
