Description
An attractive Near Eastern bronze pin, c. 1000 - 600 BC, the terminal in the form of a very schematically modelled ram, with large curved wings and long tail behind topped with a curl; at bottom a small loop. The head is modelled atop a long neck with round eyes and short curled horns. L: 6 ½ in (16.5 cm). Cf. P.R.S Moorey, Catalogue of Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum, (Oxford, 1971), p. 197, nos. 328-332 for similar examples; Ex West Virginia private collection.
