Bernard Gimbel, president of Gimbels Department Stores since 1926, congratulated "Bernie" on his recent promotion to the role of unofficial adviser to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

"Few things that have happened in past months have been as encouraging to the people of the country, and especially to businessmen, as your appointment to, and your acceptance of the tremendous job of making plans for the reconversion of the industrial life of the country to the situation which will develop when the war ends.

The delicate task of contract termination and the reconversion of our great industrial capacity to serve the peacetime needs of the people, is one which requires a master hand, and that hand the President has provided with your appointment..."

Gimbel, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the nation, appreciated Baruch's expertise in finance and business, and trusted that this knowledge would inform Baruch's advice to the president.
