Montgomery of Alamein (Bernard Law, Viscount of) Typed letter signed ('B.L. Montgomery') to Sir W.D. Ross, Provost of Oriel College, Oxford, from 1929 to1947 and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University from 1941 to 1944, reading "During my next tour of my troops I shall be spending Sunday, April 16th, in Oxford, which I have never had the pleasure of exploring before. I propose to spend the day there and to attend Morning Service at Magdalen College Chapel if I may do so. I should very much like to take the opportunity of paying my respects to you, and of seeing something of the University if that is possible.
