1803 First Edition "LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES..."
1803-Dated, First Edition Imprint titled, "THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA VOL. VI. ACTS PASSED AT THE SECOND SESSION OF THE SEVENTH CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES." Washington City, Extremely Fine.
This historic volume also contains various U.S. Treaties with several different Native American Indian Tribes, including the Chickasaws, Creeks, Choctaws, and Senecas. The lower right corner of the half title page is lacking, some paper cover to the bottom half of the spine is lacking and there is some minor foxing to the first two pages. Otherwise, the interior printed text is in clean fresh Extremely Fine condition. This original imprint has its Half-title with pale blue plain wrappers laid down over stiff wove paper with notations on its cover, being Untrimmed and Partially Uncut. There are 85 pages, and this supplement contains Treaties of the United States in their first Congressional printings.
The Treaty with France attempted to reconcile many of the commerce problems the United States had with the French Republic, which promulgated in 1800. That Treaty was ratified by John Adams in one of his last acts as President. The British Convention of 1802 was also an attempt to settle the commercial differences arising from differing interpretations of Jay's Treaty. This measure did not solve the problems which drove Jefferson to impose an Embargo just a few years later. A very scarce original 1803 7th Congress Imprint.
