Description
Rare and important Rookwood Standard glaze two handled vase done by Grace Young in 1900, most likely for the Paris Exposition that same year. Purchased in London about 20 years ago, the vase features a beautifully rendered Indian woman holding her baby who is wrapped in a woven checkerboard patterned blanket. The mother peers out of a darkened area while the baby is shown in a lighted area. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 604 C and the incised monogram of the artist. Height 9 inches. Very light crazing and a couple of very minor scratches. Elizabeth Rudisill Collection.
