Description
Dimensions: 18-1/8" H x 11-1/2" W

Chinese Qing Dynasty hexagonal amphora ruby red porcelain vase. Amphora vase potted in a hexagonal lower body, tapered gracefully toward straight tall neck leading to a slightly incurved rim, flanked with two ribbon archaic pattern handles on the neck in gilt fine color hand painted, raised on a hexagonal splayed foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in ruby-red underglaze base color which contrast against the famille rose design color. Famille rose hand painting depicted vividly hand painted in enamel design, famille rose translates to the pink family, on a colored ground decoration. Each bulging sides enclosing colorful falangcai, famille rose on a colored ground decoration, of Bajixiang. The exterior body adorned with a batch of magpie bird flying, hanging on the branch of peony flowers blooms tree. The magpie is universally admired for its intelligence and guile but it can be a nuisance to farmers. In China it has a positive connotation, a harbinger of joy and as such a magpie is used in paintings to wish someone joy as Xi means glad, joy, happiness. If the character is shown upside down, like Fu, good fortune, it means happiness is arriving. In pictures a group of magpie symbolizes many good wishes, with an official on horseback signifies multiple joys. Pictures with magpies, bamboos and plums signify a wish for marital joy. A pair of magpies symbolize marital bliss double happiness. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on under base, a six underglaze script characters reign mark, Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
