1860 RAILROAD Exploration Surveys Plants Insects Mammals Birds Reptiles Fish
Beginning in 1855, the United States Congress published reports and surveys of certain railroad routes from the Mississippi River westward to the Pacific. This 12th volume from the ‘Reports of Exploration’ represents work carried out on the route near the 47th and 49th parallels. It is comprised of two parts.
The first is the Botanical Report explored by I. I. Stevens, governor of Washington Territory in 1853-'55. This second book is in two parts:
Report on the Botany of the Route
Catalogue of Plants collected east of the Rocky Mountains
Catalogue of Plants collected in Washington territory
The second is the Zoological Report. It is in seven parts:
Report on the Insects collected
Report on the Mammals collected
Report on the birds collected
Reptiles collected
Fishes collected
Mollusca collected
Crustacea collected
This edition includes numerous black and white plates as well as a few full color plates.
