This lot consists of an oil painting on canvas on board, rendered in the style of modern artist Moise Kisling (Polish/French, 1891-1953). "Kisling" is hand painted at top left. Image depicts a female portrait. The woman has vibrant red hair, elongated neck and almond-shaped eyes. This piece is an excellent example of the modern art style for which Kisling is so well known. Painting would make a great addition to any fine art collection. Overall framed dimensions 21" x 17" / Image sight measures 15.5" x 11.5".

Paper label en verso reads in part "JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., INC." along with a New York address. The label lists the artist as "MOISE KISLING" and "Rousse aux Yeux Verts". "PRIVATE COLLECTION: Paris.

Additional paper label read "GALERIE CHARPENTIER" and list the artist as "KISLING" along with a Paris address.

In 1913 he returned to Montparnasse, where he took a studio and lived for the next 27 years. The artists Jules Pascin and later Amedeo Modigliani lived in the same building. He became close friends with many of his contemporaries, including Modigliani, who painted a portrait of him in 1916 (in the collection of the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris). His style in painting landscapes is similar to that of Marc Chagall. A master at depicting the female body, his surreal nudes and portraits earned him the widest acclaim.

Painting is in overall good condition. Canvas has some waves in it. Also, some specs/flakes likely from the frame are visible under the glass. The spec near the woman's forehead is actually on the glass and not part of the painting. Overall image and signature remain crisp, vibrant and bold.
