This lot consists of a hand-stenciled aerosol painting on a reclaimed European road sign, done in the street art style of graffitti artist Banksy (British, 1974-). "Banksy" is stenciled at right. This image depicts the Virgin Mary with a baby in her arms. On the bottle is the ancient symbol for poison. An iteration of Banksy's well-known image, "Toxic Mary" (2003). Rendered in the challenging, contemporary graffiti style for which Banksy is so well known. Square metal European road sign measures approximately 24" x 24".

Banksy is an anonymous English-based street artist, vandal, political activist and painter. Banksy combines dark humor with graffiti done in a distinctive stenciling technique. His works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.
