New World, Native American, US Midwest, Titterington / Sedalia phase, Archaic Period, ca. 2000 to 0 BCE. A group of thirteen pale-colored knapped chert bifacial gouges. Archaeologists categorize this culture by its large, distinctive bifaces, which are often found in caches and seem to have been traded around a wide area, used to solidify connections between roving kin groups in the prairie regions of modern day Missouri and Illinois. Size of largest (all are fairly similar in size) 1.6" W x 3.1" H (4.1 cm x 7.9 cm); size of case: 16.15" W x 12.2" H (41 cm x 31 cm)
