Native American, North America, Archaic to Woodland period, ca. 2500 BCE to 1650 CE (4500 to 350 BP). A collection of petite projectile points or "bird points" so named for their miniature scale, made from chert and quartzite stones, boasting a variety of stemmed, bifurcated, and lanceolate forms. Although colloquially called "bird points," experimental archaeology has shown that they could easily have been used for hunting large game like deer - since birds were much easier to capture with nets. Size of largest: 1.3" L x 0.6" W (3.3 cm x 1.5 cm)
