Description
Mid 29th-28th century BC. A carved limestone cylinder seal with two naked heroes Gilgameš and Enkidu killing the 'bull of heaven', standing up between them, while the right-standing Enkidu, hidden under tree branches, holding them with his right hand over him, with his left one a dagger thrusts into the chest of the bull, rams Gilgameš, recognisable by his high royal headgear, his dagger from the bottom up into its throat. Accompanied by a museum-quality impression. 4.33 grams, 31mm (1 1/8"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s.
