Description
(1902 - 2003) German film director, an intimate friend of Hitler who filmed the propaganda classic, "Triumph of the Will". "I HAD ONLY ONE WISH - TO CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL FOR YOU" Superb content war-date A.L.S. "Leni Riefenstahl" on her personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, "Tuesday evening after the showing". In full: "My Fuhrer - I am happy that you enjoyed the movie. During my work, I only had one wish - to create something beautiful for you. Today I now know that through my work I could provide you with that enjoyment. Your happy, Leni Riefenstahl". File holes at the left margin, a small repaired fold split and a few wrinkles, else very good. From her direct reference to pleasing Hitler, Riefenstahl could only have been referring to the 1935 propaganda masterpiece "Triumph des Willens" ("Triumph of the Will"). Of the six films directed and/or produced by Riefenstahl between 1932 and the end of the war, only two films featured Hitler. One, "Der Sieg des Glaubens" ("The Victory of Faith"), included Ernst Rohm and was banned outright following Rohm's murder. "Triumph of the Will", however, was a Nazi favorite and Hitler would have had every reason to keep Riefenstahl's warm letter to him. Besides, Hitler commissioned the film and served as an unofficial executive producer; his name appears in the opening titles.
