Title-leaf & 20 mounted hand-stenciled pochoir plates, loose in portfolio, as issued. 47x33 cm (19½x15"), gilt-lettered boards portfolio with cloth spine, pochoir plate mounted on front board, ribbon ties.
The 20 plates present 86 striking Art Nouveau and Art Deco textile and wallpaper designs by the French artist Edouard Benedictus (1878-1930), superbly rendered in pochoir by the master of the technique, Jean Saudé. Besides being an accomplished artist, the talented Benedictus was a chemist, and the inventor of bullet-proof glass.
Condition
Some soiling and wear to portfolio, two of the six ribbon ties torn off, though one is still present; title-leaf trimmed down, a corner crease, a small thumbnail tear; some plates with minor corner wear or creases; very good, with bright plates.
