Description

Douglas Baders last autograph. Aircrew Association Banquet, The Guildhall, London 4 September 1982. Programme signed to front page by Douglas Bader, Leonard Cheshire VC, Gus Walker, inside by David Shannon, Hamish Mahaddie. The Douglas Bader signature was possibly the last one he signed as sadly he died on the way home after attending and making a speech at the Banquet. I Alan Cooper had presented him with documents concerning his escape from a French hospital while in German captivity, I then spoke to him at the end of the evening in which he said how pleased he was to have the documents he then signed the covering booklet. This would have been after midnight on the 5 September only an hour so later he suffered a heart attack and died in the Chiswick area. A great shock having only been talking to him hours before.
