Description
ROOSEVELT FRANKLIN D: (1882-1945) American President 1933-45. T.L.S., Franklin D Roosevelt, one page, 4to, Albany, 15th February 1932, to Richard Duff, on the printed stationery of the State of New York Executive Chamber. Roosevelt writes, in full, 'I have your letter and hope that when I am next at Warm Springs I shall have time to work on stamps. I feel sure I shall find some duplicates to send you.' A couple of light, very minor corner creases, otherwise VG £150-200 Roosevelt, who himself has appeared on several United States postage stamps, spent almost a lifetime as an ardent collector of stamps (and autographs). His interest in philately started at around the age of eight years, encouraged by his mother who had also been a collector. When Roosevelt contracted polio in 1921, he turned to his stamps as a welcome distraction during his bedridden days. He once said 'I owe my life to hobbies - especially stamp collecting'.
